COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This 3-day, 24-hour course is designed for those in the field of forensic sciences that have or will have the authority and responsibility to investigate cold case homicides. The course begins with case file review and organization of the file. Gauging your ability to think and act objectively, possessing the ability to ask the right questions, having the knowledge of new investigative techniques along with being up to date with technological advances are an integral part of this training. You will learn the important components of how to re-open a cold case. You will learn how to choose which start up decisions and options are best for the type of cold case you are handling. From media coverage to follow up interviews, using the right resources along with other techniques discussed during this course will help you close your cold cases. This course is intended as a foundational course and the course content is organized to cover the fundamental duties and responsibilities of a cold case homicide investigator. Law enforcement personnel will be allowed to bring their own cold cases for discussion during a round table investigative session.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This is a hands-on course that is specifically designed for crime scene investigators, detectives, crime laboratory analysts, and crime scene officers with or without experience. This course is taught in a manner in which the crime scene officer can easily understand.

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS:

Very casual attire and a digital camera with macro capabilities are preferred.  A laptop computer for your tasks is also recommended.
